Elton John - All about him

The past few weeks I have done a ton of research about Elton John, the musician, father and more. We had to arrange all our information into a DLO, I chose a slideshow on Canva. I learnt heaps of new stuff about him and I hope you do to. It took a lot of time and research as well as heaps of sites needed. After all this work I think it was definitely worth it. Have a look and I hope you enjoy, do you have anything to add?

Homographs, Homophones, Antonyms

Today for Writing I made 2 google drawings. 1 is for homographs, the other antonyms and homophones.

Look beneath for what they all mean.

Homophones = Words that sound the same but have a different meaning and spelling.

Example = Mail & Male.

Homographs = Words that are spelt the same, with a different meaning and somethings said differently.

Example = A tear rolled down his face - He wanted to tear it up.

Antonyms = The opposite of words.

Example = Hot & Cold.

Have a look at my 2 google drawings.

Synonyms and Proverbs

For the past 2 days I have been working on Synonyms and Proverbs. A synonym is another word for something that means the same, for example, Small = Tiny. Also a proverb is a saying that is commonly known, like Don't count your chickens before they hatch. I made a google drawing, it clearly shows which half is for which, purple for Synonyms, pink for Proverbs. I hope you like it, do you know any other examples?

Suffix

Today I did something like prefixes but instead suffixes. It was tons of fun. I learnt lots of new suffixes, I paired them with an image and then wrote and example. Along with the meaning. I put all this information on a slideshow. I hope you love it. Do you know any examples of the suffixes on the last page?

Prefix

Today I made a google slides on examples and meaning of prefixes. It was fun, so I hope you like it.

Did you originally know what a prefix was?

Emma Twigg

Today even though we are in lockdown I finished my Emma Twigg DLO. I made a Biteable, Biteable is kind of like a google slide. Though you have moving slides and transitions for just about anything and everything.

Emma Twigg is a New Zealand Rower, and Olympic Gold Medalist. For anymore information you will have to look down below.

Had you heard of Emma Twigg before? I hope you like it.

Volleyball - Olympic Sport

Today I have finished my Olympic sport information report.

I chose Volleyball because it is kind of a sport I don't know anything about. The only thing I knew going into this report was that they played with a net, and hit a ball back and forth. The information I found out was rather interesting, like how William G. Morgan originally named the sport Mintonette. Though a Professor suggested Volleyball because of the Volleying nature of the sport.

3 sentences I found rather important.

  • That volleyball was created for businessmen, because at the time basketball was rather new. Though businessmen found basketball a bit to rough, so William made volleyball for them.
  • Something I especially found interesting is that the first ever time volleyball was on the Olympics was in Tokyo, 1964. How ironic because this Olympics going on currently is also in Tokyo, and volleyball is still being played.
  • Something also important in the sports rules is that you can actually pass to your other teammates 3 times, maximum. Then you have to bat it over the net.
If I ever post my information report onto my blog, make sure to read it.
Have you ever played volleyball?

Elements in a Narrative

Today for Writing we are learning about Narratives. I watched a video on an advertisement from Heinz, the bean company. I then answered boxes on what the plot, characters, setting, and theme was.

Narratives are made-up stories about things that include, characters, setting, problem, solution, climax. For example majority of Disney Movies are narratives, so if you read the books it is a narrative.

Here is my DLO, a google drawing of a mind map. And here is a Link to the Heinz video I did the google drawing off.

Simile

Also this week I was working on similes, as simile is a comparison of two unlike things using like or as. For example: She was like the sun.

Beneath this is my simile slide from the figurative language slide. There is a song example, my own example, definition, and a photo.

Do you know any other similes?

Metaphors

This week I worked a bit on Metaphors. Metaphors are a comparison of two unlike words such as is, are, was, and were. For example: He was an ox. Down below this is my metaphor slide, from my figurative language slideshow. On the slide there is a song example, my own example, a photo and a definition.

Do you know any other metaphors?

Personification

Today for Writing I made this DLO, about Personification. Personification is when you give non-human things human-like qualities. For example the wind whistled through the trees. On my DLO, I have examples from many different things. Did you know in lots of songs there is personification. Like in Next to You by Chris Brown ft. Justin Bieber.

Do you know any other songs?

My creative Refugee Story

The other day we went on a Refugee walk, and so today one of the task options was to create my own creative Refugees. Refugees are people that flee from their homes to go somewhere else. Because they are now unable to stay where they are. In class we had also been reading a book called refugee, it was about 3 different stories about 3 different kids. All the kids are refugees and are from different decades. Down below this piece of writing is my story.

Have you read the book Refugee?

The trekking was tough, I had to carry my weight in rocks, sticks and

shelter supplies. I could not keep my two feet balanced. Mainly, because

of the heavy cargo, and harsh weather. The rain speckling 24/7 on us, the muddy mush becoming thick and slowly hardening on my feet, then

once I stand in a puddle every few seconds, it all seeps into my hole

covered, empty feeling and very old converse. The star logo fading to

anyones eye. My friends and family stare at me through soaking faces

and dirt covered glasses. I see one of my mates pick up an old piece of

twine, from an old shoe lace. I walk over, they say that this is good rope

for our shelter. That motivational speech I heard from them, seemed

to me motivational. I got everyone in the group ready and we trudged on,

all my friends panting behind me. I heard voices and it was getting dark,

I looked behind me only to see the speckling of people turning on

flashlights. I looked at my group unaware of what was coming, the

people ended up spotting us. I had to get us away fast. I called on the

rest of us to hurry up. Trying not to startle them too much. We start

jogging, which turns into a run, then a run, then a sprint, and then a

scream sprint. Then I hear gravel crunching from the men chasing us,

but ignore it. I tell my group to run faster and they do, then I throw

a hat on the floor of one direction and we go the opposite. Then

I grab someone’s bag. That had a couple of rocks in it, and the bag cost

about $0.10, then I throw it the opposite way that we are going. We

start running and running until we come to a clearing, surrounding it

was trees and thorns. Just the place to hide out for the night. I get

everyone in with the help of my friends. Once inside I pull out the

shelter equipment and give it to all the adults. They make a shelter

within 15 minutes. Once that is done I grab out the rice and water. I

start to make the rice but then I realise that I left the Firestarter

at home. I start to panic and go around everyone looking for a lighter.

No one has one but someone comes up to me 30 minutes later, with a

handmade bow drill. They then teach me how to use the bow drill. I'm

surprised with their skills and get them to make the fire for our meal.

Once they made the fire I start preparing the rice properly, and I get

the water from someone's hydro flask. It's all old, blue, and scratched.

I thank them for letting me borrow their only water, and I call them over

to help me do the honour of pouring in the water.

Then I dish up all the children a big handful of rice, in a plastic cup that we found on the way here. That was in someone’s skip. They had

to eat it with their bare hands. The thing is that their hands were

covered in mud, dirt and dog poop. After 30 minutes the children

started feeling sick, and I wasn't sure how this was going to go.

Because we had no medicine.

The life of Suzanne Aubert.

Today in Writing I did a a piece of information Writing about Suzanne Aubert. A Sister who worked in New Zealand. Down below this little piece of Writing is my actual piece about Suzanne. We decided to write about this because on camp we went to the Suzanne Aubert Heritage House. I hope you like it, Have you ever heard of Suzanne Aubert?

   Suzanne Aubert

Suzanne Aubert was born on the 19 of June, 1835, in Saint-Symphorien-de-lay, in France. She then died on the first of October 1926, in Wellington.

0-5                                                                                                                                                                      When Suzanne was about two, she fell through an ice surface. She ended up landing on some rocks beneath, from there Suzanne  became temporarily crippled and blind. Because of the event and the horrible death of her disabled brother, Louis. She gained endurance towards empathy for people of all kind.

Suzanne was never allowed to join a Religious life, due to her parents.

5+                                                                                                                                                                       Once she got the freedom to chose her own path, at the age of 25. She decided to accept the invitation to become a Missionary for the Bishop Pompallier's Auckland Diocese.

39+  -Middle Life                                                                                                                                       After working at the Maori Girl Boarding School. She left Auckland to work at the Marist Maori Mission Station at Meanee in Hawke's Bay with the 3rd Order of Mary. Then ad 39, Suzanne considering her hopes of Revival of the Maori Mission on the new Bishop of Wellington, Bishop Redwood, he was Suzanne's lifelong supporter.

Then at 48, by an invitation from the Maori from the Whanganui River area, Suzanne said goodbye to Hawke's Bay for the Hiruharama/*Jerusalem - revive the Catholic Mission.

From here the birth of the home-made Catholic Congregation - The Daughter of Our Lady of Compassion was born.

2 years later on Christmas Day, 1885. Bishop Redwood blessed Saint Joseph's Church. Once it was burnt down 3 years later, Suzanne set off on a collecting tour all over New Zealand. She left for 5 years and came back with $1000. Enough to build a new church; and covenant. During the tour, Suzanne had began to notice a lot of people faced by poor and unmarried Mothers and their babies. She then took a total of 74 babies and children into the care of the Sisters of Our Lady of Compassion. But Hiruharama was too isolated from any medical services. So then the Suzanne Aubert decided to go to Wellington, arriving with no warning, in 1899 with 2 other Sisters.

The Sister's started working straight away with Wellington's Suffering and Destitute planning, a much-needed home. From there the Sister's set up a soup kitchen. (Which still runs today). Along with a creche for the children of working parents. So they brought land in Island Bay, in 1907, Our Lady's Home of Compassion was officially opened. One year before Suzanne returned, Bishop Redwood appointed Suzanne as Mother Superior of the Newly Established, Daughters of Our Lady of Compassion.

Near the end                                                                                                                                                       Suzanne never stopped, knowledge about her spread far and wide. Suzanne ended up traveling to Rome in 1913, at the age of 78, she went to present her case to the Pope.

After over 4 years, Pope Benedict XV accepted the Decree of Praise to the Sister's of Our Lady of Compassion. The Decree completely changed it all:

  • It protected all the things she did.
  • It widened her scope for Health Care.
  • It also protected her resolution that their would be for everyone.
  • It also recognised her interpretation of New Zealand Society and Spirituality.
By Early, 1920, frail old Suzanne returned home to Island Bay to the Sister's who, while she was gone, remained true to their cause. Back at the helm, she organised for extensive alterations to the home for a Surgical Section. Then 2 years later the Sister's began Nursing Training, for the new hospital.

Death                                                                                                                                                                  Then, sadly, on October 1, 1926, at age 91. Suzanne died with the Sister's by her side. Once news was out, huge crowds came to pay their respects. Wellington's streets and rooftops were covered in people, waiting for the hearse to drive on through.

I hope you like it!

This is Suzanne Aubert

Capital E in Wellington (Our Camp Trip Away).

This is my recount on Capital E in Wellington.

Capital E - Wellington Trip

On Friday the 26 of March, the Year Eights from New Brighton Catholic went to Wellington. We went for Camp, and on the day we were leaving we went to Capital E, a recording studio.

This trip was heaps of fun, and we stayed 2 nights in Wellington.

We ended up walking down to Capital E, slightly late. Maybe 5 to 10 minutes. On the way we started rushing, but once we got there we were all good.

At the Capital E, recording studio we were met by a lady named Kitty. She was very nice.

She took us around and showed us the ropes of what to do. She showed me how to be the Director,

which was heaps of fun. I got to tell Charlotte and Corina what to do. They were Floor Manager and

another type of Manager I can’t remember. I made sure everyone was ready for their cues by telling

the Managers when to cue others in.

I was in the Sound type booth, with Jackson O, Jackson M and Mase. Miss Holland and Kitty were in there too. Jackson O was in charge of the sound, so the music mainly. Jackson M was the one cutting to different scenes, with all the transitions. Then, Mase was working on the background for the Green Screen.

Once everyone understood how to play their parts, and that everyone was dressed and ready to go. Kitty told us we could start the dress rehearsal. The first run wasn’t very good, though very funny. Everyone would not know when the cameras were on, and walk off too early. It made it more funny and enjoyable. After that we got to take a look at the final product of the dress rehearsal. It was terrible but funny, we all cracked up.

Once we were finished with watching the dress rehearsal we went outside for a snack. Muesli Bar and apples mainly. I scoffed mine down.

When we got back inside we went to start of the actual product. Everyone got into different outfits and

got into their places. I cued everyone in that we were starting. Even though this was our good copy we

still had some oopsies when filming. But nothing major or life changing. At the end we finished off the

recording with cool music and everyone on the stage.

Have you ever been to Capital E before?

Here is a link to the Capital E finished copy.

You can also see it on YouTube at Capital E.

Haiku's

W.A.L.T. Write a haiku following the correct structure.
For this blog post I am publishing a haiku to my blog.
I chose the one I did about Fuller House. Here it is.

Fuller House
It is a reboot,
the series sadly finished.
I wish they did more.

I hope you liked that, if you want to write your own watch this video.
Don't forget that a Haiku has to have 3 line. The first with 5 syllables, then 7 and the 5 again. Syllables are sounds from a word.

My Narrative

W.A.L.T. write an engaging narrative.
Here is my full narrative, it is about a Pony called Spy Pony.
I have finished my story as well as the editing.
I liked writing the story because it has character.
Do you like make believe stories?

Spy Pony!
Bang! Bang!, “Come on Pony open up.” Spy Pony gets up off the couch. Though he moved
as slow as a snail. His ruby red cape  was all creased. Spy Pony is a superhero pony. His
mother was Hoove Lady. Hoove Lady was very famous for the incredible save. A baby hippo
weighing 100 pounds once fell out of a 5 story window. She was just walking to get lunch when
the baby hippo fell, she caught the baby. It was the save of the century.
Spy Pony also known as Pony was very odd. He wore a sock around his head as a mask, he dyed
his tail blue. Most of all he could talk. But that is not strange compared to what happens later on in
the story.

Ponies house was like the opposite of a modern house.  It was like a little shack but big. His carpet
had holes in it from when Super Evil Kitty stayed over. She sprayed acid everywhere. Evil Kitty also
left claw marks on the couch. The couch was a rustic colour with burgundy patterns. Ponies roof was
the worst of all, it was very patchy and open.
“Pony I don’t have all day, open the door.” Pony reached the door, he very slowly unlocked the security
chain and opened the door. Evil Iguana burst in and knocked poor Pony off his feet.
“Whatever, sorry Pony” said Iguana. “I have to stay here, Mrs Evil Iguana is going to kill me,” Iguana
added frantically.”  Iguana had green scales with little spikes on his back. He was not a superhero, he
was a villain. Pony didn’t mind Iguana that much. Though Bird Boy despised him. Bird Boy once was
the best superhero ever, now he has critical injuries. Iguana once ate his bony legs. He had to get
robotic legs.

“I accidentally knocked over her award for being Evil. She found out and is now carrying a blow torch
looking for me.” Iguana added. “Just apologise Iguana” Said Pony trying to get Iguana out of the house.
“Nope, I live here now.” Pony sighed with a big huff and went to grab some cola. He came back out
and crashed back on the couch. They talked about Global Warming and how they are cutting down
on hay prices.

Then Iguana got off the couch and noticed Sally bobbing up and down in her bowl. Sally was a blue
sparkly seahorse, and was the cutest pet of them all.  Iguana kept his eye on Sally then as he was
inches away from Sally’s bowl, he licked his lips. Sally stood intimidated by Iguana and started
crouching in the corner. Iguana’s hand crept into the bowl and pulled out Sally by the tail. He
opened his mouth. His throat was gravelly and he dropped Sally in his gravelly throat. Sally
soared down yelping like a lost dog.
Iguana started choking and Pony tried to get Iguana to cough out Sally but he refused.

Then Pony got Iguana to go to the bathroom, he told Iguana to sit on the toilet and try to poop out Sally.
Pony eagerly slammed the bathroom door and bounced to the couch. After maybe 13 minutes
of groaning from the bathroom and carrot shreds flying on the ground, Iguana came out. A piece
of toilet paper was stuck to his foot. Pony slightly shifted his head to look at Iguana. “Any luck Iguana?”
Asked Pony, not very inquisitive though. “Nope, lunch has set at the bottom of my stomach”.
Chuckled Iguana.

Once Pony finished brainstorming ideas he came up with some options.
  1. We get a surgeon to cut open your stomach and we retrieve Sally.
  2. You sneeze with your nose blocked and you turn inside out and Sally falls to the ground.
  3. The only negative is that all your organs fall out to.
  4. Last but not least, I put my hoof down your throat and pull out Sally.
“I chose the throat, but there is another way to retrieve Sally by putting up my hoof, but that
will be the very last option” Said Pony desperately.

“Yeah, Pony we are not doing the first two.” “Number 3 it is.” Pony hesitated. Pony sanitised
his hoof and pulled back Iguana’s head and stuck his hoof down his throat. “This is me literally
touching a tuna fish salad right now.” gulped Pony. Iguana groaned and complained a lot.
Unfortunately after 14 tries they gave up. “That was like a taser down my throat.” Pony
re-sanities his hooves and then re- re-sanitises his hooves.
Then it came to Pony. “I have got the best idea in the world!” exaggerated Pony.

Pony and Iguana arrived at the pet store and went straight to the fishy section. There she was
a blue sparkly Seahorse all alone. Iguana rushed to the counter and ordered the Seahorse,
where Pony shrugged along. After 10 minutes Pony finally reached the counter. He was huffing
and puffing all the way there, by the end he was exhausted. His face was bright red and he looked
like he needed an inhaler.
Iguana shoved Pony to the side and grabbed a plastic bag for Sally 2.0. The lady at the counter
had a strong smell of bubble gum. She had a lip piercing and a big chin hair. She wasn’t too
enthused to sell them a fish. They fished out Sally from the tank and put her in a bag that was
filled with water.

Once at home they put Sally 2.0 in her new bowl and gave her some fish flakes. They
slouched back on the couch. “Well, that was something new,” said Iguana. “Something new,”
Pony replied with. “Also Pony, you need to go to the gym if you want to put me in prison”.
“Hahahahahaha Iguana, very funny. Very funnnnnyyyyy”.

Murray Mustachio

W.A.L.T. Analyse characters and create a description
For Writing today I wrote 3 paragraphs explaining my shoemaker of choice. There were 2 shoemakers to choose from a tall evil one and a nice short one. I chose nice. Then I had to make an image. The 3 paragraphs are first so you can imagine him and then there is the picture.
I hope you enjoy it, once you have read the text and seen the picture can you add anymore description of the character?
Write the description in the comments, thanks for checking out my blog:)

Hi There reader,
This is a story I wrote about my friend Murray Mustachio. He owns a shoe shop in Paris. You will
find all about him in my 4 paragraphs. In the paragraphs you will find out what games he plays, his
family, shop and his appearance. Keep reading on to find out more.

Murray Mustachio is the owner of shoes for yous. He could not think of any other fitting rhyming word.
He makes all the great shoes that last longer than that grouchy man across the road. In Murray's spare
time he likes to play knucklebones with his shoe pals. He tends to beat them normally since they
always get the knucklebone stuck in the hole where you put your foot in. He also likes to play jump rope
with the spare shoe laces in his shop. His record is about 3 so far. His friend Boot can jump 8. Where
his Jordan can only do about… 35. He keeps practicing his jump rope but every time he lands on the
rope all the shoes laugh, especially the pink high heel. He is great with his games. He also just started
learning how to play the tuba, and he introduced a new game to the shoes. It is called jump squats. He
jumps and then squats, then he laughs as the shoes fall on their souls.

Murray isn’t much of a family man, he barely remembers when his own mother's birthday is. Luckily
his sister Evelyn-Peterson (yes here first name is Evelyn-Peterson. She goes by Petey though)
reminds him because they always do a joint gift. Normally, Murray makes a pair of shoes and Petey
makes the card. Petey will sign for Murray as well and Murray will put her initials along with his on the
soul. They make a great team, together. Murray’s father, James is an old rude guy. He despises
Evelyn-Peterson. Which is sad because she is as sweet as a gum drop. He says that she needs to
get a job instead of being a makeup artist. He also said that she wasn’t going to have a life if all she
did was put cosmetics on peoples faces. Where their Mom says that she is going to strive for greatness
and she will make a great career and be loved by all the ugly people.

Murray’s shop is a very old shop. It was built in the 1800’s by an 1800 year old tree chopper.
The house has a lot of rusty pieces though. He lives there so there is a kitchen in the back but it is
all stained and has mold in every single crack in sight. The mold had a growth spurt.
The rats don’t even tend to go in the kitchen because it is covered in decay. The shelfs that hold all
the shoes have holes from where the termites chewed down on. His shop is the size of a hobbit hole
where his bedroom is the kitchen. The maximum capacity is 3 at a time. They always do family
reunions in England where his parents live because they have a huge mansion. They don’t give money
to their kids though, they put it in an inheritance.

Finally Murray’s appearance.

Murray has a thick moustache, hence the name Mustachio. It comes from the dads in the
Mustachio family. His glasses are square lense glasses with stiff borders. Don’t get me started on his
hair. His hair is swished to all degrees and it is dark hazel. With his shoes they are brown with a pointy
front and a high heel at the back. Now with his eyebrows that is a whole nother story. They are like thin,
brown icing stripes which match his brown eyes. He wears a crisp blue button up shirt with a brown old
apron.
