Elton John - All about him

The past few weeks I have done a ton of research about Elton John, the musician, father and more. We had to arrange all our information into a DLO, I chose a slideshow on Canva. I learnt heaps of new stuff about him and I hope you do to. It took a lot of time and research as well as heaps of sites needed. After all this work I think it was definitely worth it. Have a look and I hope you enjoy, do you have anything to add?

Sound of Music Hand Signs

Today I did the hand signs to sign of music. It has different colours for different actions, and it has the song version off of Sound of Music. Have you seen the movie?

The song is on the slide, line for slides.

Homographs, Homophones, Antonyms

Today for Writing I made 2 google drawings. 1 is for homographs, the other antonyms and homophones.

Look beneath for what they all mean.

Homophones = Words that sound the same but have a different meaning and spelling.

Example = Mail & Male.

Homographs = Words that are spelt the same, with a different meaning and somethings said differently.

Example = A tear rolled down his face - He wanted to tear it up.

Antonyms = The opposite of words.

Example = Hot & Cold.

Have a look at my 2 google drawings.

My Orangutan Infographic

This past week a lot of my class have been making Orangutan infographics. We spent a lot of time on these. An infographic has to have images related to the topic, along with a decent amount of writing. So you have to edit a lot.

Did you know that it is said around 25 orangutans die a day. That means in 6 and a bit years, the orangutans will be extinct. Since there is around 50,000 to 65,000. I hope you like my infographic, is there anything that you would like to add?

The Beatitudes

This is a post on the Beatitudes, a set of rules/law Jesus got on the Sermon of the Mount. There are 8 Beatitudes, my activity is to find people that showed these 8 things, 1 person for each beatitude.

The 8 Beatitudes

- Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

- Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

-  Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

- Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.

- Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

- Blessed are pure in heart, for they shall see God.

- Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children.

- Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Who else showed the beatitudes?

Synonyms and Proverbs

For the past 2 days I have been working on Synonyms and Proverbs. A synonym is another word for something that means the same, for example, Small = Tiny. Also a proverb is a saying that is commonly known, like Don't count your chickens before they hatch. I made a google drawing, it clearly shows which half is for which, purple for Synonyms, pink for Proverbs. I hope you like it, do you know any other examples?

Suffix

Today I did something like prefixes but instead suffixes. It was tons of fun. I learnt lots of new suffixes, I paired them with an image and then wrote and example. Along with the meaning. I put all this information on a slideshow. I hope you love it. Do you know any examples of the suffixes on the last page?

Children's War

Today for Reading I answered to questions, wrote a small piece of writing on what it would be like not seeing my family on the casualty list. Also finding a matching image. I found this image not to hard, and mostly fun. I hope you like the story. You should write one yourself.

I scan the casualty list looking for any sign of my family. I don’t seem to see them, I slowly reach the end. I never saw them, that is a bit of relief though I really want to know if they are okay. This feeling keeps me up at night unsure of their status. We only receive a letter once or twice a month usually.

The Children's War

Today for Reading there are 3 parts to it. 1 is to write a short summary on what I wrote. 2 is to post a picture of what I did. Finally, I was to share what I think it would have been like to have been a child back then.

Summary

For around 4 years the War went on. New Zealand was being affected too, we gave around 14,000 soldiers to help fight. Most wanted to go for adventures, most just assumed they would be able to be back by Christmas. This was not the case, they spent a lot of time there. Most families had fathers, brothers and cousins in the war. The families kept up to date with what was happening in the war, through telegrams, letters, postcards and newspapers. Many kids waited for their families return. Though 1 in 5 men would not return home.

During the War kids had to help by donating money, making scarves and handkerchiefs, and by sending cards along with the care parcels women made. The children also every morning sang songs as the Union Jack was raised. Then after some time, schools started creating cadet type things. To teach kids that you need to be fit and healthy on the inside and out. Also to get them to act like they are those people. The also had to learn through a journal for many reasons. Then after even more time, every school had to have a number of time for Physical Education.

Questions

What I think it would be like as a child back then
I think it would be really hard, family members over fighting. All of my friends going through the same thing. Classmates losing family and hearing lots got injured. It would be sad. Though when making cards and scarves you would feel slightly better to know that these are going out to those fighting.

What is on thing you know about the War?

Prefix

Today I made a google slides on examples and meaning of prefixes. It was fun, so I hope you like it.

Did you originally know what a prefix was?

Bible readings related to Abraham and Sarah

Today for R.E. I watched some videos on Abraham and Sarah, I then had to look up these bible readings and write in my own words what they are about. It is down below I hope you like it.

Do you the name of their son?

Fallen leaves Comic Strip

Today for Reading, I made a comic strip using Pixton Comics, it was about the Haora and the Battle of Kororaeka. I did my best on it, though there were limited options. There are captions to help you read it, you will have to probably zoom, cause the writing is a bit small. Did you know about the Battle of Kororareka before?

Jesus in the Temple

Today for R.E. I was too pick an event in Jesus' life and then write a summary, create and image, and find a quote kind of related. I chose Jesus getting lost at the Temple. I found it really hard to find a quote, I tried my best. It took a lot of searching but I got something relating. It is on my main poster, in the blue underneath the writing. I didn't have enough space to put in my own image so I added another poster/image below that. I hope you like it. If you had to do this activity what event of Jesus' life would you chose.

The Senses story

Today for Reading I did a Senses story from Haora's view. It means that I use the 5 senses to write a story. Smell, Taste, Sight, Touch, Hearing. I think I did a good job, have a look below this and read it. Tell me if you like it, do you like it?

Currencies

Today for Math I had to chose 2 other currencies and compare them to New Zealand's Currency. I did what is the exchange rate, a picture of the country, what currency they use, and lastly what other countries use that currency.

The Events of Jesus' life

Today for R.E. I put Jesus' Life in order of events. It was a bit of a struggle at first but somethings helped me get them into the order. Some of the events were like Jesus' birth or him carrying the cross. Even him going up to Heaven. Look at my google drawing to see some more events from Jesus' life.

Can you see what number he rode through a town on a donkey?

The Battle of Kororareka

Do you know what The Battle of Kororareka is?

Kororareka is a place that held a battle. Hone Heke came with several hundred other fighters. Before I ruin it they had a fight. If you want to know more just have a look at my Google Drawing down below. Do you know who Hone Heke is?

New Zealand Currency - Maths

Today for Maths I made a slideshow on the History of New Zealand Currency. I won't give any spoilers so check it out. Do you know any other reasons these people were put on the notes?

Jesus' Life

W.A.L.T. Recall the events in the life of Jesus.

Today for R.E. I completed a slideshow, I had to write 5 events of Jesus life. Mainly the main ones, and also find out the what the Bible Reading was about. I then had to chose one of the slides from there, I chose the list of 5 events. I hope you like it, do you know any other events in his life?

Men vs. Women - Venn Diagram

Today for Reading I made a Venn Diagram comparing men and women on their rights back in the day. It really puts how unfair it was for women back in the day into a bigger perspective. Men were always seen as the more dominate and the more powerful, they were seen as the leader. Though women had many of good qualities and they could be a leader. Now have a look at my Venn Diagram to see the comparisons.

Do you know of any other rights that either of them had or similarities?

Newspaper Article, they got the vote.

Today for Reading I had to write a Newspaper Article on Kate Sheppard winning the right for Women to vote. I tried to base this on back in the day, but it was a bit tricky. I won't write to much and ruin it so look down below.

Do you know of any other people that campaigned in the suffrage?

Tuesday, 24 August 2021

Kate Sheppard

Today I made a poster of what I think is the way they advertised women voting back then. Keeping in mind that they didn't have much so they had to travel and advertise and get signatures for the petition. I made my poster on an old times themed website and I just changed the writing and image. I hope you like it.

Do you know why women wanted to vote?

Monday, 23 August 2021

Kate Sheppard and Meri Te Tai Mangakahia

 Who is Kate and Meri?

Well Kate Sheppard and Meri Te Tai Mangakahia helped shape the future. They got women the privilege of voting. If they weren't there we might not look like what we do now. Kate and Meri went into Parliament at different times with different people. But the both campaigned for the voting of women. Though even though they did a lot of the same things, though Kate got women enrolled, mainly Kate is mentioned. Where Meri Te Tai Mangakahia did fight too. For more information on the two look below at my Google Drawing.

Had you heard of the pair before?

Sister Aroha

Sister Aroha is the first ever New Zealand Nun that went over to serve for the Mother Theresa order.

She was born Philomene Hoban, a farm girl from Calverton. This is only a little bit about her. Look below fora Venn diagram of me comparing her to Mary the Mother of God. Also a google drawing on ´What can we learn from Sister Aroha´s life? There is also a video on Sister Aroha, check that out below.

Before this did you know who Sister Aroha and Mother Theresa was?

Volleyball - Olympic Sport

Today I have finished my Olympic sport information report.

I chose Volleyball because it is kind of a sport I don't know anything about. The only thing I knew going into this report was that they played with a net, and hit a ball back and forth. The information I found out was rather interesting, like how William G. Morgan originally named the sport Mintonette. Though a Professor suggested Volleyball because of the Volleying nature of the sport.

3 sentences I found rather important.

  • That volleyball was created for businessmen, because at the time basketball was rather new. Though businessmen found basketball a bit to rough, so William made volleyball for them.
  • Something I especially found interesting is that the first ever time volleyball was on the Olympics was in Tokyo, 1964. How ironic because this Olympics going on currently is also in Tokyo, and volleyball is still being played.
  • Something also important in the sports rules is that you can actually pass to your other teammates 3 times, maximum. Then you have to bat it over the net.
If I ever post my information report onto my blog, make sure to read it.
Have you ever played volleyball?

Compassion

Today for R.E. and prayers I made a google drawing on what Compassion is. Compassion is helping others and not expecting anything in return. For example: Giving money to the poor or homeless, or donating money to a charity.

We also did watch a short clip on compassion. I have put it down below.

Positives and Negatives of Social Media

Today for Cybersmart we have been making a pros and cons list of social media. We used the app Biteable, a very cool app. You can make animations and stuff, with motion and music.

My opinion on Social Media.

It is a hard thing to think about, if I am being honest. Every app has pros and cons. Though I still reckon that social media can be a good thing, sometimes at least. Like, you can connect with people you know, and share interests and opinions. As well as, growing friendships to be stronger and making friends.

Even though there are heaps more of my cons down below, I do kind of reckon that it is more specific. Where the pros are a bit more inclusive to many ideas, like a bit of a summary of some. Down below are the positives and negatives. So, I believe that through this work I have found that social media is very good, in some contexts. Though, don't talk to someone you don't know it could be a catfish.

What is your opinion, is social media good or bad?

Positives.

- You could make friends.

- Be able to contact others.

- Share opinions and ideas.

- Get an understanding on what is happening, news wise.

- Find stuff you like, such as hobbies and interests.

- You can relate to others interests.

- Learn stuff.

Negatives.

- Catfish.

- Mental Health Disorders.

- False advertising.

- Cyber bullying.

- Death threats/threats.

- No limit to content.

- Hackers.

- Scams.

- Click Bait.

- Being trolled.

- No consequences.

Moses held free the Israelites. David slayed Goliath, and was chosen for the throne. Noah built an ark to save his family and 2 of every animal from a flood.

They all were chosen by God. One the Slideshow I have added a retelling of the story, and images for each.

Do you know what other things they did?

My comments

 W.A.L.T analyse our blog comments

Today for Cybersmart I did a google drawing on my most recent comments. I had to rate them, whether they are good or bad. From there I had to also add what emotion this might give someone. Either happy, okay, sad, or angry/sad. I think I did a pretty good job with this task. I then put little side notes on the google drawing saying what went good here and stuff like that. There is some photos down below.

Will you post a positive, thoughtful, helpful comment?

The top one here is a comment I put on the middle box from down below. And the bottom one was for the first.

Then Finally, this one was placed on Max's blog and is the final box.

Elements in a Narrative

Today for Writing we are learning about Narratives. I watched a video on an advertisement from Heinz, the bean company. I then answered boxes on what the plot, characters, setting, and theme was.

Narratives are made-up stories about things that include, characters, setting, problem, solution, climax. For example majority of Disney Movies are narratives, so if you read the books it is a narrative.

Here is my DLO, a google drawing of a mind map. And here is a Link to the Heinz video I did the google drawing off.

Imagery, Alliteration, Rhyme.

Today for Writing under Figurative Language I made a google slide on Imagery, Alliteration, and Rhyme. Every slide has a different colour depending on the different figurative language. Alliteration = Purple. Rhyme = Blue and Imagery = Pink. There is also some song examples.

Rhyme is when two that sounds similar when you say or hear them.

Alliteration is the repetition of vowel sounds in any words.

Imagery (or sensory) is about using the five senses.

I also added some examples so you can see what that means. Here is the slideshow beneath.

Do you know any other examples?

How to Simplify Fractions

So lately in Math I have been learning how to simplify fractions. Now I am going to teach you, I have attached a google drawing so you know. Simplifying fractions gets way easier after a couple practices.

Just in case my explaining wasn't helpful I placed a Math Antics video too. I also have ones to try for yourself.

Now if you are to simplify a fraction you do this: For example, 12/24. Looking at this fraction it may look kind of hard right? Not exactly, the truth is that honestly the simplified version is 1/2, 6/12 or maybe 3/6.

Now to teach you how to get this, I would write this again. But I have written this once on the google drawing go check it out.

Pentecost Mind Map

Today for R.E. I finished off my Pentecost Mind Map. It has a bunch of information about Pentecost. I don't want to spoil anything, so go look at the images below.

Do you know the symbol of Pentecost?

Simile

Also this week I was working on similes, as simile is a comparison of two unlike things using like or as. For example: She was like the sun.

Beneath this is my simile slide from the figurative language slide. There is a song example, my own example, definition, and a photo.

Do you know any other similes?

Metaphors

This week I worked a bit on Metaphors. Metaphors are a comparison of two unlike words such as is, are, was, and were. For example: He was an ox. Down below this is my metaphor slide, from my figurative language slideshow. On the slide there is a song example, my own example, a photo and a definition.

Do you know any other metaphors?

Personification

Today for Writing I made this DLO, about Personification. Personification is when you give non-human things human-like qualities. For example the wind whistled through the trees. On my DLO, I have examples from many different things. Did you know in lots of songs there is personification. Like in Next to You by Chris Brown ft. Justin Bieber.

Do you know any other songs?

How to post a good comment

Today for Cybersmart I made a poster on How to Post a Good Comment. I used Canva, a great app. When your posting a good comment always make sure to use Positive, Thoughtful, Helpful. (PTH.) You also ask a question at the end. If the blog post has a question you also answer it.

When you positive comments you always need to think about the positive side, and don't think of the negatives.

Posting thoughtful comments is when you show a common interest or something you have similar.

Then finally if your doing helpful, you tell them something, like advice. For example: Don't forget to put a capital letter at the start of the title.

Check out my posters below, Is there anything else I missed?

Don't forget to comment.
